14. Residential House Over £1M
Douglas Design Studio
Curvilinear Revival Home
Toronto, Canada
All project descriptions are provided by SBID Awards entrants.
This renovation preserved the essence of a 1980s home while introducing strategic enhancements and Art Deco touches. A key addition was a breakfast area with a retractable skylight and patio doors, connecting the interior to an upper terrace and lower-level pool. The project's design language, inspired by the existing staircase's sweeping lines, embraces a curvilinear theme throughout. Resilient fabrics, polished metals, and textured glass were incorporated, allowing for a harmonious integration of repurposed and new pieces. The renovation achieves a delicate balance between preserving the home's character and meeting the clients' desire for a refreshed and refreshing functional space.
